South Pasadena Unified Grade “A” Jug Band protests the California State Budget cuts to public education in this music video, which is based on Woody Guthrie’s 1937 original, “Do Re Mi”. In the video, the students beg the governator, Arnold Schwarzenneger, to please restore money to education. The jug band is comprised of students from K-5. The video was a collaborative efforts between parents and students at South Pasadena Unified School District.

In his latest book, “Henry: Virtuous Prince”, David Starkey proposes that Elizabeth of York played a significant role in her son’s education. Starkey even asserts that Elizabeth taught Henry to read and write and this is illustrated in the similar manner of handwriting endorsed by both. In his latest documentary on the life of Henry VIII, Starkey reiterates this point and provides primary material to indicate the impact Elizabeth played on her son’s upbringing. An example of Henry viii’s handwriting dating to his childhood can be seen at the current exhibit, “Vivat Rex!” at the Grolier Club, New York. In Nepal, many impoverished families have been forced to sell their daughters to work far from home as bonded servants. Some of these children are as young as six! Most of these enslaved girls live in horrific conditions. They seldom attend school and have no prospects for a decent future. Many are abused, some are forced into prostitution, and some disappear entirely. The Nepalese Youth Opportunity Foundation (NYOF) brings these girls home to their families, sponsors their education, and gives each girl’s family a piglet or goat to reimburse them for the money they would have received for selling their daughter.
